High Paid consultants don't Practice what they Preach!
Many people who are less than honest tell business that people don't work for money. They actually work for job satisfaction, value and the feeling of self worth. It's the old self esteem routine. Heck, if any of those people REALLY believe this garbage they spew, how about they cut their fee by 75% and work for minimum wage. No? Hell no, they would say.
The reason is that we ALL WORK FOR THE MONEY. The primary driving force that keeps us getting up everyday and going to jobs we hate is the innate understanding that our survival and the survival of our families depend on it. Ok, maybe the work value et al is important AFTER a certain point in the economic scale. I'll give you that the extra emotional and psychological perks that are pushed as truth have merit after a certain level of income is reached. Until that level is reached however, you can count on people to vote with their feet when it comes to job satisfaction. As someone gets lower on the economic scale, they are much more likely to job jump for ever smaller increases in pay. That is, they leave for the money! No matter how good the emotional perks may be, if it's a choice between having food on the table for little junior or feeling good about the job, food will take precedence over the emotional touchy feeling garbage sold by the very high paid consultant.
The sad thing is that management, desperately wanting to continue down the road to ever lower operating costs buys into the touchy feels non economic pabulum consultants sell. Of course, not for them but for the rank and file. The result is a claim that they don't understand why the attrition rate is so high with their employees. After all, they walk around telling each one how great and important they are to the company.... working at 9 bucks an hour
