The Case of the Open Door

Home security is sometimes the easiest to fake when it appears that someone is inside the house. The key to effective home security is the focus on the appearance of someone being home. This includes lights coming on at dusk, Newspapers etc. being picked up regularly etc. The focus then needs to be on the appearances of a lived in home. These appearances can be mean the difference between a secure home and one with a big ole invitation to be broken into by burglars.

A case could therefore be made that if you inadvertently left the front door to your home WIDE OPEN while going to the store, burglars would be less likely to attempt to break in as someone obviously is home or else the door would be closed and locked.

The point of this post is NOT to suggest that everyone start leaving their doors open but to have a little perspective on the whole picture. Leaving you door open, although serious it's not enough to immediately speed home almost causing an accident..
