What happens when my Rental Car is a Lemon?
Getting a rental car is a lot like a date. No matter how bad it is, it'll be over soon enough and you never need to date again! Still, common sense will say that you should end the dating analogy now and look over the body of the rental car BEFORE leaving the lot.
All car rental companies hold you liable for damage to the vehicle. By checking the car out before leaving the rental lot, all dings, cracks in plastic etc. can be noted as pre-existing. This limits your liability and problems when returning the car.
Take a look at the inside also. Any major stains or accessories not working? Did the last girl who rented the car smoke in your no smoking car? If so, have the rental car representative make a note of it. Regardless of your claims of no smoking, the rental company may charge YOU a cleaning fee if they smell the smoke when you return. All in all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
